Locally Approved Charter School Process
To establish a locally approved charter school in Georgia, petitioners
must first submit a Letter of Intent to their local school board,
followed by the Charter Start-Up Petition which details the school's
plan and operations. The local board reviews the petition and votes on
approval. If approved locally, the petition then moves to the State
Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) for a review and
recommendation, which is followed by a final vote by the State Board of
Education (SBOE).
